Maasai Mara Migration |
|
The
Serengeti is the ultimate wildlife park and the location
where many nature films are shot, notably the works
of Hugo Van Lawick ('Leopard Son', 'Solo' etc). From
cheetahs to elephants, a dazzling array of animals
thrives in this historic arena where primitive men
roamed thousands of years ago.

The
Maasi Mara - the northern part of the Serengeti -
is the world's most famous game park. The BBC's 'Big
Cat Diary' and 'Elephant Week' are filmed here before
being televised to over 100 million viewers worldwide!
Once a year, over 1.5 million wildebeest migrate to
the Serengeti, crossing the crocodile-infested Mara
river in what is believed to be 'the greatest show
on earth'. They are dogged by hyenas and stalked by
the big cats of the African savannah. |

Fort Jesus |
Mountains |

With
its long and colourful history (from pre-history to
colonialism and post-independence) there are plenty
of relics to explore, the best known of which is Fort
Jesus, a vestige of Anglo-Arabic power struggle on
the Kenyan coast. |

Mountain-climbing,
hiking and even skiing can be done on the slopes of
Mt.Kenya and Mt.Kilimanjaro - the highest points on
the continent. The Mt.Kenya forest harbours plenty
of wildlife, including gorillas and the rare black
panther (melanistic leopard). Kilimanjaro, the inspiration
for Earnest Hemingways 'The Snows of Kilimanjaro"
is home to the even rarer clouded leopard. |
